The Bruins and Canucks get the Stanley Cup final started tonight in Vancouver.

It's the most wonderful time of the year for a hockey fan as the Stanley Cup final kicks off tonight.

The President's Trophy winning Vancouver Canucks are on home ice for game one in the best-of-seven series as they welcome the Boston Bruins to Rogers Arena.

It will be a series to remember but one of the biggest battles is sure to be at the goaltender position. Both Vancouver's Roberto Luongo and Boston's Tim Thomas are up for the Vezina Trophy this season as the league's top netminder. Luongo won a league-high 38 games with a sparkling 2.11 goals against average and a .928 save percentage. Thomas, a former Vezina winner, put in another stellar season. The veteran won 35 games compared to just 11 losses while putting up a league-best goals against average of 2.00 and a new NHL record save percentage of .938.

In the playoffs, the two netminders are mirror images of each other. Both come into the series with 12-6 records and goals against averages of 2.29. Both Luongo and Thomas have two shutouts in this postseason as well.

While both teams boast elite level netminders, the offensive edge would have to go to Vancouver. The Canucks led the NHL with 258 goals this season and for the second straight year, had a player lead the league in points. The Bruins will try to counter the high-flying attack of the Canucks with a veteran defensive unit filled with experience. Leading the way are Zdeno Chara, Tomas Kaberle and Dennis Seidenberg, all looking for their first Stanley Cup.

One thing's for sure, it should be a series for the ages.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm tonight.
