Reid Carruthers' rink will represent our province at the Brier next month in Brandon.

They defeated William Lyburn 5-3 in yesterday's final of the 2019 Viterra Championship in Virden.

Mike McEwen's with the Carruthers foursome, and was asked just how hard did his team have to work to win.

"Pretty darn hard," he laughs, "Willie's team put a bit of pressure on us in 7. They put together a good end and we had a couple that we didn't execute on, and kudos to them for putting points on the board. That pressed us."

Meanwhile, Lyburn calls it an amazing week.

"I put this team at the start of the year together," he says, "Thinking that we'd be good, and then we had doubts, because it just wasn't really working out. And then just all of a sudden our hard work in practice, and working with Jerry Sandy's been amazing. And it started in Brandon, and we were right there, and we were close -- one game."

Carruthers talks about his upcoming sixth trip to the Brier.

"It's awfully special, and this was a super hard-fought game," he says, "Especially after they got the three, so I felt like we really needed to earn this one, and I'm really happy with how the guys played."

The Brier will be held March 2nd to 10th at Westoba Place in Brandon.
