Central Plains Cancer Services made a major announcement today at the Portage Mutual Insurance location during their Challenge Walk kick-off.

"We have some exciting news today," said director Sharilyn Knox while making the announcement. "The committee and Central Plains Cancer Services have joined together in conjunction with Portage District General Hospital to put our fundraising toward renovating the treatment room in the community cancer clinic at Portage Hospital."

Family Physician for Oncology Brett Finney says he's excited.

"This is great. We work in an older wing of the hospital right now, which is certainly a fine space to work in," says Finney. "But we have patients going through a very stressful experience. And this is somewhere where they're coming on a regular basis. And it'll be nice to have a more welcoming space."

Family Physician in Oncology David Kinnear adds, "We've had an ongoing partnership with Central Plains Cancer Services for many years. And we're absolutely thrilled with all the services they provide the people who are afflicted with cancer and those who have survived. They've provided all sorts of supports to the people who are struggling with cancer."

The 11th Annual Central Plains Challenge 10 km Walk & Run will be on Saturday, June 9th.
