With budgeting season coming up for Portage la Prairie's City Council, community organizations are being asked to submit community grant applications if they'll need financial support.

Councillor Preston Meier says they're always interested in working alongside the groups and organizations that make the city as successful as it is. He says the goal with these grants is to help make Portage a better place to live, work, and play.

"We're extremely interested in working with the local organizations to improve and of course enrich the lives of our residents and certainly help out a lot of our community groups," explains Meier. "We are certainly interested in supporting the grant applications in order to meet this goal."

He adds the deadline to apply is September 19th. Meier says a lot of organizations that you see running programs around the city have benefited from applying for a community grant.

"We know that there was the Portage Community Revitalization Corporation," says Meier. "Certainly the library was part of that as well. Some community groups such as the Bear Clan were involved too. COPP has looked at it in the past, so a variety of different community organizations are going to benefit."
