Dorothy May Louise Weselake

July 19, 1920 ~ January 7, 2024

Peacefully, at Lions Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie, Dorothy passed away at the age of 103.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Lawrence, brother Francis Campbell, and her two sisters, Audrey Hobbs and Margaret Olafson.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Larry Weselake (Shanon), daughter Pat Dewar (Rick) and daughter Veda Weselake (Barry), grandchildren; Nathan Weselake (Tamara), Erin Neufeld (Tyler), Sally Willms (Corey), Andrew Dewar, Kimberly Dewar, Jonas Weselake-George, Zachary Weselake-George, twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy’s early life was spent in northern Manitoba. She was born in The Pas and grew up in Grand Rapids. Her parents, Geddes and Florence Campbell, started a general store which her mom and the children continued to operate after her father died of pneumonia when she was nine years old.

She met Lawrence when he came to work at Grand Rapids for the winter months. After they married, they farmed near Beausejour, Lawrence’s home area for many years.

Dorothy loved Jesus and loved people. She was sensitive to others and quick to pick up on what they needed to hear from her or what they needed to have done for them. Mom enjoyed life and her faith visibly sustained her through life’s challenges. She memorized Bible verses that were particularly fortifying to her; John chapter 14, being a particular favourite.

She was active in church and children’s ministries over the years. Dorothy enjoyed poetry, knitting, beadwork, and baking. She loved the outdoors, particularly northern Manitoba – lakes, rivers, evergreen forests – the country she came from.

Thanks to Lions Prairie Manor staff for their wonderful care for Mom over the past 3 ½ years. As Dorothy’s family, we’ve been grateful to you on a daily basis.
