Dwight P. Johnson

1954-2023

In sadness we announce the sudden passing of Dwight Peter Johnson on August 4th, 2023 at the age of 69 years with his family at his side.

Dwight will be lovingly remembered by daughters Jenny (Dwayne), Megan and son Ryan (Amber); grandchildren Melissa, Sammy, Nicholas, Oliver, Mason and Cooper; his first wife Carole (Russ) and too numerous to name, Becker family members; his second wife Darcie and the Ostapowich family. Also surviving is brother Gary Shirley); sister Beverly (Gerald) and sister in-law Betty. He is predeceased by his son Jeremy, parents Geraldine and Ernest, siblings Delores, Ken, Stuart, Murray and Wayne.

Dwight was born in Carberry, MB and was raised on the family farm near Austin.  Once he moved to Portage La Prairie, he soon found one of his true passions and driving forces in life, the CN Railway. He worked for the railway for much of his teenage and adult life right up until retirement. His second passion in life was hunting and fishing. If you knew Dwight, chances are you will have heard one of his many hunting, fishing or railway stories. These were some of his happiest memories.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Portage Hospital for taking such great care of our dad and supporting us through difficult time. Extra thanks to Dr. Arbuckle and Dr. Parker.

A Come and Go Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Gainsborough Community Club, R.M. of Portage la Prairie, MB. Burial will take place at the Austin Cemetery, Austin, MB on Sunday, August 20th, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
