The Family Abuse Prevention Centre has found a new Executive Director.

Kim Lavallee will take the reins of the centre. She's been settling into the role under the watchful eye of former ED Joyce Schrader.

Lavallee weighs in on her experience at the centre thus far.

"It's challenging but also rewarding. It's been a couple of weeks, so I'm starting to settle in. The transition has been really good, and Joyce has been helpful. The board is great, and the staff is good. So, it's been quite an easy transition."

Former Executive Director Joyce Schrader announced her retirement after working with the centre for 15 years.

Lavallee assures us the Prevention Centre is in capable hands.

"I've done this type of work before. I was the director of Community based training for several years. The management part of it is an easy transition for me. Of course, this is different from a college, but when you've done that type of work, it's a pretty easy transition."

The centre strives to provide a safe-haven and has a multitude of resources for women and children undergoing domestic abuse.

Lavallee says there are a few priorities she'd like to take care of at the centre.

"To get the right amount of staff we need, that's my first priority. My second priority is to learn the systems, but I want to continue to build relationships in the community with other organizations. I think that it's important to reach out and build those relationships."
