The MacGregor Fire Department was dispatched to a combine fire last week, leaving no one injured.

The incident occurred just west of MacGregor, and Fire Chief Chris Leckie says the blaze started due to mechanical issues.

"It was quickly extinguished, and we saved as much as we could from it."

Leckie tells PortageOnline that this is something his crew knows can happen at this time of year.

"We do get the odd farm equipment fire. We're well equipped to deal with any fire within the municipality."

While he doesn't know the estimated damages from the fire, Leckie notes that the department feels for the farmer who has to deal with the loss of equipment.

"We hope they can get their crops off. I'm sure everybody will pull together to help everybody out still."
