The Portage Pitbulls are planning on having a season. The football organization recently announced that a shortened 2021 campaign will take place. President Travis Roberts says they plan to begin the action early next week.

“We’re looking to return to the field on Tuesday, August 17. We’ll be running practices every Tuesday and Thursday,” says Roberts. “We will hopefully begin regular-season games following September 10.”

Roberts says registration is a two-part process.

“There is a portion of it done online with the MMFA involving things like insurance,” Roberts explains. “There are also the club fees for the Portage Pitbulls organization and that’s what we will be collecting on August 17.”

Roberts adds the in-person portion of the registration will take place at 7 p.m. at Rotary Republic of Manitobah Park.

The club president says it’s great to be able to get the kids onto the field in some capacity, noting it will be as nice for parents to interact with each other as it will for the athletes. Roberts outlines the age groups to sign up for.

“Cruncher is for entry-level players born in 2012 and 2013, Atom for those born in 2010 and 2011, PeeWee is 2008 and 2009, and Bantam is for 2006 and 2007,” says Roberts.
