No broken bones and lucky to be alive.

Scott Cairns is grateful to only be sore after a horrific car crash last Friday near Elie.

Born in Portage la Prairie, Scott now lives in Winnipeg. He says he was on the road for work when he realized the weather conditions were worse than he expected.

A Blizzard Warning had been effect for much of southern Manitoba on that day, and highways were closed periodically throughout the weekend. At this time, they were open, and Scott says he didn't want to stay on them long.

"I was going to a job, a client in Portage, and as soon as I got on the highway, I knew it was dangerous to be driving, but you can't really stop in that kind of visibility on the highway, and turn around," says Cairns. "I was planning to go to Elie and then turn around there."

He says he believes he got close to Elie, but he doesn't remember.

"Somebody rear-ended me, and I heard it was a semi, and then it basically turned me, and then another semi hit me on the driver's side," says Cairns. "That's all I heard from the doctor when I woke up in the Health Sciences Centre (in Winnipeg)."

The initial social media post announcing Scott was OK now has over 130 comments. Cairns says he has heard from everyone about how lucky he was, after they saw the condition of his 2016 Honda Fit.

"Everybody said that. Autopac, the doctor, the towing (company)," says Cairns. "When we were phoning around trying to find the car, they were all shocked. The first thing they asked was if I was all right."
