Next February sees the second 150 Women Who Care event in Portage.

It's a Community Foundation of Portage and District initiative, where 150 women are part of choosing the recipient of a $10,000 Foundation grant.

Foundation Executive Director Mandy Dubois explains in February of last year, 150 women committed a $100.00 donation, entitling them to hear five non-profits' funding requests, and vote for the one they felt was deserving.

"So it was really exciting for everybody in the room to hear about what the projects were that were going on," she says. "And then now they really feel part of that project because they awarded that grant. And it really showcased what the Foundation does. We take donations, we invest them in a permanent endowment fund, and then we give out grants for it. So they really got to take part in that process."

Dubois didn't expect they'd hold a second event.

"We had run it as a one-off event," she says. "Well, it was a success, and we heard a lot of great feedback, so we've decided to do it again. Right now, we have a call out to any non-profits that would like to put in an application. Applications are due by mid-January, and then we will select the five non-profits to pitch again."

It's being held February 27th at the Glesby Centre.
