The utility plant in Glenella just purchased a new bulk water meter, resolving a long-time problem for residents who had to transport water to their homes. Municipality of Glenella-Lansdowne reeve Richard Funk explains the former situation, and how the new system works.

"Oh, it's very good because citizens would go for water and it wouldn't accept their money. And they would go away with no water. Or else the technician that runs it would have to bypass or do whatever he had to do to get them water. And it was a real problem. So, they went to work and found themselves a new coin operator and put it in. It's working fine now. It takes a wide range of coins."

Funk outlines why they require a bulk water facility.

"They use a lot of water, The well water isn't sufficient in a lot of areas. So, they haul their water to their cisterns and one thing or another. Their drinking water, too, is hauled from there. It requires a constant drain on the system to keep it running. Now they've got it up and running in fine fashion. So, everything is working."

The new bulk water meter takes quarters, loonies and toonies, and cost the municipality  at a cost of $334.38 (including taxes) and was installed by Orest.

Funk says there are roughly around 30 to 40 people who haul water from the plant.
