The 11th Habitat for Humanity home in Portage la Prairie's scheduled to be ready in a about a year, and the new homeowner's excited.

Amanda Lavineway recently found out her application was accepted, and calls the feeling crazy.

"My twins have shared a room since they were born," she says, "So this will be the first time that they are actually going to have their own bedrooms. The place we're living in is fine. It's very small, which is actually one of the criteria, that you have outgrown your place. We moved in when the twins were a month and a half, and they are now 10. And now it's just amazing to think they're going to have their own space, and my 14-year-old will have his room, and we'll have a second living room. It's a big change."

Lavineway has to provide 500 hours of sweat equity, instead of a down payment, and she says that's already begun.

"I'm volunteering at MacKenzie's Thrift Shop, and I'm volunteering with PAWS," she says. "Homes For The Holidays is coming up, so I'm going to do that. I think a two-parent family has to get 300 hours from the family, and then 200 from friends and family. But because I'm a single mom, I have to do 200 myself, and then my friends and family can do 300. I think between me and my family already, we have 100 hours, and we found out October 1st."

Lavineway stresses once they've achieved 500 hours in sweat equity, they'll continue volunteering in the community. She's also grateful to everyone who's going to help with building the home.

All smiles once the paperwork is done
