Hashtag Trashtag (#trashtag). That's this year's impetus behind the Portage Community Revitalization Corporation's (PCRC) Beautification Days program. Community engagement coordinator Mari Lawrence explains.

Mari Lawrence"This year we wanted to tag onto the hashtag that is trending right now for the #trashtag," says Lawrence. "People take pictures before and after they do a clean up of an area. There's been a lot on social media about it lately. We really want to get people engaged this year in clean-up."

She says you have to pre-register with PCRC and include the area you wish to clean so as not to conflict with another group. You can email your information or call them, and there will be supplies to pick up including gloves and bags. Lawrence says you then proceed to clean your area up, send in the photos, and hopefully win a prize.

If you want to be more involved, you can also Adopt-An-Area which you can register for. You take this area and make two clean-ups there per year, and there are supplies for you to pick up for that project as well.
