The Portage Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC) can't wait to watch kids from the area check out tons of different vehicles today.

Community engagement coordinator Lorna Knight says the event will allow kids to get up close and even get inside vehicles that they wouldn't normally be allowed to, such as police cars, fire trucks, zambonis and more.

"You'll have the individuals who operate those particular vehicles there, so they can answer all of the kids' questions," explains Knight. "It's in such a nice, safe environment that kids can see things and touch things and just experience all of those different kinds of machines."

Those at the event will also get to enjoy a free barbecue. Knight is excited for the families in attendance to see the full lineup of vehicles throughout the event.

"A lot of the time, we're telling them to stay away, let those people do their work," says Knight. "This just gives an opportunity for kids to see these kinds of things and be involved."

Touch a Truck will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 at the BDO Centre.
