The Family Resource Centre in Portage la Prairie is soon offering a new program for families in the city. Program Director Peter Thiessen explains it's called Parenting Conversations.

"That's going to be done with a social worker from Southern Health-Santé Sud," notes Thiessen. "We'll be talking about different topics, such as communication styles, stress management, and anxiety depression. That'll be once a month offered here. Keep an eye on our social media and our calendar for that information."

He describes this as great for those looking for tools in their lives where, for example, communications may be a bit of a struggle. Thiessen encourages those who are finding that they're not able to get across the message, be it your spouse, your partner, or even with your children, to get involved.

"Maybe you have really different communication styles and so learning about them could be something really helpful," continues Thiessen. "The reality is all of us have different stressors in our life and so some of us have a really good toolbox of ways to deal with it and ways to cope, but maybe we haven't had a chance to fill that up yet."

Thiessen says their Stress Management Workshop is great to learn some ways to your stress more manageable. He explains it's all about practical advice.

He reminds everyone that their programming is all free of charge and is offered to those who register through their website at https://frcportage.ca

"The programs are scheduled to take place on one Wednesday afternoon a month, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. However, If you can't make it to the actual program, then we are also hoping to have resources added to our website. So, if there's a handout, if there are any notes or tip sheets, we are hoping to have resources that people can access anytime of charge on the website, as well."
