The Herman Prior Activity Centre didn't let the risk of rain ruin their good time.

Executive director Kathy Bryce says the Car Hop Drive Inn, which took place during the evening of August 18th, was possibly going to be a pretty rainy affair, causing their DJ and dancers to back out. She says they decided to simply move the event indoors and let the good times roll.

"I was pleasantly surprised at how many people came out last evening," exclaims Bryce. "It was supposed to rain all day and, of course, being Manitoba, it didn't rain. We had close to 200 people come through and everyone really enjoyed themselves and had a nice supper here."

The executive director adds some seniors that attended the Car Hop actually preferred eating inside the centre, as opposed to being isolated in their cars. She goes into detail on what it's like to see the community come out while the risk of rain persisted.

"It always amazes me at the support that they give to so many organizations in Portage, the Herman Prior Activity Centre seems to be a favorite of a lot of people with the support they give us," says Bryce. "It is phenomenal. It helps to keep the centre running and it's such a wonderful meeting place for everybody."

Bryce is excited to keep doing everything she can to keep the centre going as a staple of Portage la Prairie.
