Local country musician Nelson Little's recent song release continues to gain momentum as he and his band played to a full-house event of family, friends, and fans this past Sunday. The multi-part event saw an official recognition of the release at the Thunderbird House in Winnipeg, followed by the official music video recording of the song "Just Make It Happen" at the Royal George Hotel. A number of Portage residents made the trip to support the events and made up a big portion of the crowd at the recording. Little describes the full-day event as extraordinary, calling the opportunity to perform in front of his biggest supporters a remarkable experience. He points to his partnership with promoter/songwriter and long-time Portage resident Dave Rodgers as hugely influential in his artistic journey and the creation of the song.

"I wanted to give up. I just wanted to raise my kids and cash in my chips. He said you can't put obstacles up in your life, you have to overcome your hurdles, just make it happen. Then he says, 'We should write a song and call it Just Make It Happen'...that's 22 months ago".

From his early life experiences to the responsibilities associated with adult living and family life, Little says it took a lot of personal work and commitment to prioritize the development of his on-stage presence and author original music. Little extends his gratitude to band members Troy Flamand (guitar), Michael Audette (Fiddle/videography), Leroy Constant (Bass guitar), Steve Broadhurst (drums), and Bram Avery (piano) who played with him for the shoot. He's looking forward to the final product of the video but says the process of making it with such talented musicians was a rewarding experience in itself.

Promoter/songwriter Dave Rodgers says there was a hugely positive energy at the video shoot, with a full dance floor for much of the evening. He describes the day as an unforgettable experience and an important next step in their goal of growing Little's brand and branching out to as many venues as possible. Rodgers says while effective promotion and getting footage for the music video was important, their true goal aligns with the message embedded in the song.

"Our mission was simple: to spread a message of unity and inspiration, to encourage everyone to come together, and make things happen, because in this vast world, we're all in it together. Let's combine our efforts and turn dreams into actions, ready to lend a hand to anyone, anywhere, anytime."

Rodgers says it has been an honour to be part of Little's evolving music career.

"I've seen the change in him, I've seen the pain come out of him, and the joy come in his heart. I love sharing it with him and spending time with him."

Rodgers echoes Little's appreciation for those involved, saying it was collaborative efforts that contributed to the event's success. He extends his thanks to tour bus operator Kelly Morris, as well as the event hosts Greg and Jared Pester at the Royal George Hotel.

The video will take a few months to produce, and in the meantime, Little continues to book performances at local venues and promote his music.
