An assistant coach, a Regional Director, and a Regional Representative walk into a rink, the skate sharpening attendant says just the one sharpening today? He's obviously serving Portage la Prairie's John Ferg, who was recently named the Regional Representative on Sport Manitoba's Board of Directors.

"It's definitely a humbling but exciting experience and I'm looking forward to it," says Ferg. "There will be some board meetings involved but being the regional rep I'll have the first line of contact with all the regions in multiple sports areas across the Province of Manitoba."

Nominees were solicited through Sport Manitoba's Regional staff and resumes were reviewed by the Nomination Sub-Committee of the Board, and they say Ferg was an easy choice.

"I'll be a little busy for sure," laughs Ferg. "I plan to return to be Assistant Coach with Ferdi Nelissen with the Female Midget Capitals. I'll remain the Director of the Central Plains Region, and dabble into the Sport Manitoba thing. It's a multi-sport position so I'll bring some of my personal experience to that, and I'll learn as much as I can about other sports and the obstacles they face within the province."

Ferg has a strong background in sports coaching things like football, soccer, hockey, mountain biking, triathlon and many others. He'll officially join the Board as of September 1st, 2017 for a three-year term ending in 2020.
