A local golfer will be on a national stage this week in Alberta. Kenny Keeler is taking part in the Canadian Men's Mid-Amateur Championship this week in Fort McMurray. He says he finished in the top 11 in the provincial tournament which secured him a spot at the national event. Keeler describes what he is looking forward to most.

"I've been to a couple of national championships, the big thing is they're so well run," explains Keeler. "Golf Canada puts on such good events. They're very organized and it has a professional atmosphere. Anytime you can play in a national event it's pretty exciting."

Keeler is a member of the Portage team in the Prairie Putters Men's Golf League and is happy to represent them and the Portage Golf Club this week. The action kicks off today with rounds taking place until Friday. He outlines his number one goal during the tournament.

"Making the cut would be first and foremost," says Keeler. "I missed the cut last time I played in the Canadian Mid-Amateur tournament. So, my first goal is to make the cut and then go from there."

Keeler says he'll be heading out there with quite a few familiar faces from the province which he says will make it even more fun.
