As the city expands and takes on more projects, the city council looks more and more at borrowing money to fund those ideas.

City councillor Sharilyn Knox says the city's administration always puts them in the best situation to pay any money back from whom they're borrowing from. She notes they don't always borrow from the same select groups of people.

"Sometimes the money is coming from other sources, possibly federally or provincially," says Knox. "This just gives us the leeway to make sure those projects move forward and that we pay them back in the time required."

She notes two projects that have been made possible due to the aforementioned include the Crescent Lake causeway, as well as the construction currently underway on Saskatchewan Avenue West. She talks about the progress made on the project designed to fix up our main street.

"Right now, what you're seeing is kind of the meat and guts of the project, because we need to fix what's underneath," explains Knox. "Then, next year in the project you'll see what I like to call the pretty pieces. New roads, new sidewalks, and the beautification that will make Saskatchewan Avenue a very attractive road to be driving on."

She notes that for the causeway project, it was very important that they received funding through different sources, so they could avoid using taxpayer dollars. They expect to have a grand opening of the causeway soon.
