The Fort la Reine Museum has received a financial boost from the Lions Club.

They donated $1000 to help them out.

Madison Connolly is the Executive Director of Fort la Reine Museum. She talks about the donation.

"We were not expecting this donation, so it was just such a relief to know that the community is still supporting the museum even in our offseason. We're excited because those funds will be returned to our endowment fund through the community foundation."

The donation is going to get a boost through the provincial government. Connolly explains further.

"Right now there is a program that the Manitoba Government has launched until the end of April of next year. They're going to match every dollar by 50 per cent. That's going to be put in our endowment fund."

She says it's important to receive regular donations from the community.

"So that we can offer subsidized or even free programming for our visitors and local inhabitants here in Portage. In the summertime and the fall, we offer numerous programs and workshops. We try to make it as accessible as possible just so everyone can appreciate and experience heritage programming."
