The Portage la Prairie Lions Club will be spreading some joy this holiday season to the residents of Lions Prairie Manor and Douglas Campbell Lodge.

The organization has decided to send them each a Christmas card along with a chocolate treat. Club member Anita Hart says they wanted to let them know they are not alone.

“We filled them all out,” says Hart. “We wrote the little note in every one of them, and signed it with something like, 'Your friends at the Portage la Prairie Lions Club.' There were about four of us that wrote out 196 of the cards and had fun with it.”

Hart is so happy to be able to potentially put smiles on people’s faces, especially at this time of year, in these unique circumstances.

“It’s amazing, absolutely amazing,” Hart explains. “There have been so many things that we've been restricted and this was something that there was no physical contact. We can reach out and touch somebody's hearts just by doing something as simple as writing a little note in a card saying, 'We love you. You are very special and we hope that you have a fantastic holiday season.’”

She says oftentimes it’s the smaller, unexpected gestures that can affect people the most.

“In my experience, the small little acts of kindness are the ones that mean the world to people,” Hart explains. “We had lots of fun doing it, at least I know I did. We are looking forward to doing things like that more in the future.”
