Carman Beavers doubled Portage Islanders 6-3 at Stride Place yesterday afternoon, in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League. Carman scored three goals in the first period, from Aaron Lewaniuk, Brock Vanderveen, and Jason Rose, while the Isles were scoreless. In the second, Zack Waldvogel and John Gaudet scored for the Islanders, with Chad Millar replying for Carman. In the third, Jeremy Brooks cut Carman's lead to 4-3, but that was as close as Portage got. The Beavers' Jake Dudar and Geoff Maloney scored, to seal the win. Riley Sveistrup was busy in the Isles' goal, seeing 40 shots. The Islanders' next action is Friday night, when they visit Altona.

Central Plains Capitals split a two-game Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League series versus Norman in Thompson over the weekend. The Caps were winners on Saturday by a 6-1 count. Yesterday, the Northstars rebounded, with a 6-3 triumph. Norman built a 5-0 lead by 1:40 mark of the second period, before Cody Blight scored at 9:02. Riley Borody and Alex Cattani scored for the Caps in the third. Norman scored their fifth goal between those two markers. Rhett Boschman made 21 saves, while facing 27 shots. The Caps are off until Friday, when they host Yellowhead.

In the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League, Winnipeg Ice hammered Central Plains 9-3 at the Bell MTS Iceplex.
