The Portage Rotary Club made some presentations this week. Past President Cathie MacFarlane made two of them along with some other presidents for their years in the office.

"Today I had the honour to present to a past member and the other is still an existing member," says past president Cathie MacFarlane. "And what happens is for your president year you foster nominations from members -- kind of unsung heroes. You then choose two."

She says she presented awards for her year as president to Owen McKenzie, noting when she first joined the club, he was so welcoming. She notes the other was to Vern Crandell whom she describes as a staple of the club. MacFarlane adds Crandell's always on top of attendance as well as anniversaries and birthdays.

Derek McCutcheon presented to Jim Brands and Doug Pedden on behalf of Craig Bennet due to his absence.  Shannon Moffatt will also be presenting to members when she returns from vacation. MacFarlane explains it's a way of honouring people who never make a big show but consistently do their best, and are unsung members of the community.
