Police across the province are searching for a Winnipeg man who has escaped Stony Mountain Institution.

Terry Dutko, 24 years old, was one of two men behind a June 2019 crime spree that took officers from Winnipeg on a high-speed chase which concluded near Portage la Prairie.

In the incident, which seems straight out of Hollywood, police accused Dutko of stealing a Jeep at some point before ditching it for another vehicle at the Flying J gas station in Headingley. Officers reportedly rammed that vehicle, leading Dutko and the other suspect to get out of that car and hop into a Winnipeg Police cruiser.

Police noted the ensuing chase reached speeds of more than 200 km/h. According to reports, the pursuit spanned more than 100 kilometres and involved numerous Winnipeg police vehicles, the WPS Air1 police helicopter and RCMP cruisers.

Since that chase in 2019, Dutko has been serving an 11-year, 11-month, 28-day sentence for 18 charges.
