Louis Riel Day is coming up tomorrow in the province, and the Manitoba Agriculture Museum is inviting you to celebrate the politician who represented the interests of the Metis people.

Zach Dyck, collections and programming coordinator at the museum talks about what's going on this coming Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"It's going to be great to have people out at the museum here, I know it hasn't been too busy," notes Dyck. "Obviously, there's snow, and a lot of our buildings are not really accessible during the winter hours, so it's nice to have the ability to have people come and visit at the museum and come take a look at what we have to offer."

The Louis Riel Day celebration will include some free snowshoe rentals from Heartland Recreation Commission.

Dyck speaks about the snowshoe rentals.

"I knew that the Heartland Recreation Commission provides snowshoes and cross-country skis for the people in MacGregor," says Dyck. "Initially, I wanted to rent them out, but then they generously offered to borrow them to us for free."

There will also be horse-drawn sleigh rides from 1-4 pm, a scavenger hunt, as well as bannock, hot dogs, and drinks for sale.

The programming coordinator noted that he wanted to give a big shout-out to the volunteers at the museum, adding this event obviously wouldn't be possible without them.

On the 3rd Monday in February, Louis Riel Day is celebrated every year in Manitoba to commemorate his life as an opportunity for families to spend time together or learn about Metis culture.
