Many Manitoba roadways were shut down during the blizzard earlier today and the RCMP want all of us to be safe when getting behind the wheel.

Police report they've received multiple calls regarding stranded motorists and people stuck in the ditch after the blizzard created icy roads, zero visibility, and cold temperatures. Many highways were closed as they were deemed too treacherous to drive on.

Police say no physical injuries have been reported at this time and they will do what they can to help throughout the day.

Meanwhile, they are asking people not to travel if they do not have to. Those that do, are asked to dress warmly, ensure they have a full tank of gas, and to let somebody know the route they are taking. If you do get stranded, make sure your tailpipe is clear of snow, call police, and only turn on your car intermittenly to stay warm.

If you travel on a closed highway, you could receive a fine of $203, and emergency vehicles may not be able to reach you if you do get stranded.
