The Mayor of Portage la Prairie's heading to the east coast today for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) conference. Irvine Ferris explains what's happening.

"This conference in Halifax will have 2,000 other municipal officials, mayors, councillors, and reeves in attendance, along with our federal counterparts -- certainly cabinet ministers, and members of parliament," he says. "During the conference we'll typically hear the Prime Minister, and the leaders of the other three parties will be out as well."

Ferris says FCM's the group that works on municipalities' behalves with the federal government. He notes many vital issues are raised, foremost of which is always infrastructure funding. Ferris adds work toward more predictable infrastructure is discussed similarly to past talks about the gas tax, where a regular re-occurring predictable source of funding for municipalities can be found.
