Members of the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) made the trip to Winnipeg last week to take part in the Police and Peace Officers National Memorial Day.

The event took place on September 29th and was held on the south grounds of the Manitoba Legislative Building. Inspector Dave Scott of the MFNPS talks about why they chose to participate.

"We honour the sacrifices these members have made for public safety. We honour them and their families for them to carry on and keep strong," says Scott. "Those are the things that we certainly do support, and we encourage all of our members to attend if they can't send a prayer up to these people. They've given up the ultimate sacrifice."

Scott made the trip up alongside Inspector Bruno Rossi, the chief, and members of MFNPS. He describes the mood of the event.

"Very solemn, and very well put together by the organizers. There were pipes, drums, and great speeches from the senior staff that were there," says Scott. "It was touching and heartbreaking, but it certainly was needed."
