Yesterday marks one year since the tragic Humboldt bus crash.

Today, April 7th, is Green Shirt Day, the day Humboldt player Logan Boulet became an organ donor.

Faisal Siddiqui is a Physician with Transplant Manitoba's Gift of Life Program, and he explains the day was created by Boulets family to honour his life, his decision to be an organ donor, and to encourage others to do the same.

Siddiqui adds, since the horrific crash, organ donation signs up have gained momentum. He points to April of 2018 which saw the Manitoba donor list grow from 7000 to over 30,000 by April 30th.

"I think it reflects just how, this unfortunate event, and how the Family of Logan Boulet touched the hearts of Canadians across the country," says Siddiqui.

The amount of organ donors in our province has increased. However, Siddiqui insists wishes of those who pass are still not being met because the information isn't making it to the hospital, or the conversations with friends and family haven't happened.

Siddiqui urges everyone to reflect today on what you want, talk to family and friends, and register online here.

"If that situation arises, we can make sure you donate," shares Siddiqui.

He adds it's essential to decide for yourself and let people know so Transplant Manitoba can reach its goal to honour your wishes.
