Fresh off of an impressive showing at the Canada West Cross Country University Championships in Saskatoon, local runner Hailee Morisseau is now getting set for the National U SPORTS Cross Country Championships in Quebec City. It's a big accomplishment as Morisseau wasn't even sure she'd be running with the University of Manitoba team until two weeks before the race.

"It was a good experience in Saskatoon. I recently transferred to U of M but with Covid last year there were no events. I actually just joined this year and it was my first time competing since 2018. The weekend went really well and I wasn't expecting to place where I did. I was able to run with a few of the B.C girls for most of the race and they were the eventual winners."

Morisseau completed the 8 kilometer run with a time of 30:31.9 and was the last qualifying All-Star in the tightly-run race. Her placing earned her a Second Team All-Star spot. Morisseau ran track in in middle school and high school in Portage but her real love of running started when she joined the Junkyard Dog triathlon team based out of Portage.

"I started running more regularly with them as I've always loved triathlon. Running of course is a big part of that"

The National Event in Quebec takes place on November 20th.
