A familiar face will soon be the Reeve of the Municipality of St. Francois Xavier. Current councillor Delmer Nott did not face any competition, and he will be acclaimed.

Nott served two terms as councillor in the 1980s and is coming off another consecutive two term stint. He says he is delighted and honoured to be moving into the reeve role.

"My family history goes way back in this community. We live on the family farm and we live in the same area that our family originated in and came to," says Nott. "I have an extensive history in the community. I love this community. I'm lucky enough to be a part of it. Both my children have chosen to live in the community of St. Francois Xavier. Yeah, our roots run deep here and my community commitment, it runs deep too."

Nott says he has served on various community club boards, coached hockey, and he's always been interested in giving back to the community that has given him so much. He says he has the time and he is willing to step up to do what he can to leave the community better than how he found it.

"Our whole municipality is bordered on the south side by the Assiniboine River. Those concerns, and the water level concerns, run deep right through the whole municipality. That's something we're going to continue to monitor and work with the government on," says Nott. "We also have one main transportation route in our community that goes from one end to the other, and that is Highway 26. That road is in great need of repair."

He says phase one of the government's plan to repair and widen the road was completed -- 25 years ago -- and he'd really like to see them move to phase two, and it's something they want to talk to the province about.

He says the municipality has had a good run in recent years when it comes to development, and he wants that to continue. They have plans to improve services, recreation and so much more.

As it stands, St. Francois Xavier has four council spots. Jim Proulx was acclaimed in Ward 2, while voters will choose between Kelly Ducharme and Bryan Syrenne for Ward 1. After the October 26th election, Nott says they will figure out how to fill the remaining two seats.
