The Municipality of West-Interlake head office will now be solely in Ashern. After the amalgamation of the former RMs of Siglunes and Eriksdale, council initially operated offices both in Ashern and Eriksdale, with the CAO travelling between the two. However, Reeve Randy Helgason says many felt the logistics of the split didn't really make sense.

"Being that we (Siglunes) were the RM not forced to amalgamate, and we have a larger population and a busier office. It was felt by Council and a lot of the ratepayers in Ward 2 (Siglunes), that the question was being posed to us quite often why the office wasn't here. The decision was based basically on those facts."

The move wasn't supported by the whole Council. Helgason says the decision was approved, but three of seven Councillors voted against the change.

"It was a little contentious, but in my opinion it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated."

While he has yet to hear feedback from any residents, he's expecting some comments to come forward. The Eriksdale office will continue to act as a satellite office for the municipality.
