Two old pedestrian bridges have found a new life in Whiteshell Provincial Park.

Minister of Conservation and Climate Sarah Guillemard says the provincial government and several other partners have joined together to accomplish this, investing $325,000 towards the adaptation and reinstallation of the old bridges. The large pieces of infrastructure, weighing 3,000 pounds each, have been moved from King’s Park in Winnipeg to locations near Cabin Lake and Hanson’s Creek, where they were placed via helicopter.

Of the total cost, the province supplied $195,000. Guillemard says this project is a portion of the $500,000 her government committed towards improving provincial park trails back in April.

“During this period of uncertainty, recreational trails have seen unprecedented activity as restrictions have inspired Manitobans to further explore their province,” says Trails Manitoba President Erik Dickson. “By highlighting investments in our trails and celebrating these achievements, we draw attention to our beautiful province, and promote healthy and active living.”
