Hockey players from across the province will be in Portage la Prairie soon as they battle to call themselves the best in Manitoba.

Hockey Manitoba has two provincial tournaments scheduled for the City of Possibilities: The Female U-11 Rural B tournament (February 23 - 25) and the Co-ed Under-11 Rural AA tournament. (March 1 - 3)

Dan Bolton, Community Relations Director with the Portage Minor Hockey Association, says it brings excitement to the city while providing our teams with an advantage.

"It means kids get to sleep in their own beds and parents don't have to travel," notes Bolton. "It's fun getting to have lots of these teams come through Portage so we can showcase our great venues."

He adds that games will take place either at the BDO Centre or Portage Mutual Rink at Stride Place, depending on the days.

"They're from all over Manitoba," says Bolton when asked where teams will come from. "For the Co-ed provincials, we have teams representing Eastman, Interlake, Brandon, Central Plains, just all over."
