The Portage Collegiate Trojans have finished their regular season with a flawless record. They capped off the year with a 61-14 victory over the Elmwood Giants today.

The Trojans scored early and often in this one, just four minutes in Ian McCutchin threw a touchdown pass to Kyle Van Deynze to open the scoring.

After a short rushing touchdown and a forced fumble that followed, the Trojans had the ball on the Elmwood 40-yard line. On the first play of the drive, McCutchin throws his second TD of the game, this time to Avery Coltart who makes an unbelievable grab between two defenders. This gave the Trojans a 22-0 lead after the first quarter.

After a rushing touchdown for the Giants, PCI came right back and scored a rushing touchdown of their own making it 30-8.

Five minutes later, McCutchin and Van Deynze connected again for a touchdown this time for 35+ yards. 37-8 Trojans.

In the dying seconds of the half, McCutchin ran in a score himself to make the game 45-8 but took a late hit from an Elmwood player and did not return to the game.

The second half consisted of mostly running the ball and the clock which led them to the final of 61-14.

Head coach Donald Burrell talks about the play that took his quarterback out of the game.

"It's tough, especially the way he got hurt," says Burrell. "He was in the endzone, it was obvious that the touchdown had been scored and he gets hit late like that, it's just not classy football. It makes the whole league look bad. We won, at the end of the day that's all that matters. McCutchin will be okay, I just didn't want to risk him getting hurt any further."

Burrell also outlines how much his leaders mean to this squad.

"For as long as we have Ian McCutchin, Carter Little, and Mason Wieringa as our leaders we will always be the better football team on the field," says Burrell. "Today we had to show our classiness against a bunch of players that were doing a lot of talking and hitting after the whistle. Today was more about us showing our class as a 7-0 football team."

The next outing for PCI will be the beginning of their post-season and it will take place at home on October 31st.
