The Portage Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC) is grateful to receive grant funding for two programs thanks to the province's Arts, Culture and Sport in Community Fund.

Executive director Mari Kozar says $25,000 has been earmarked for their Woksape Oiyadi (Wisdom Steps) program. She notes that the program was started when they began their urban Indigenous strategy and realized that there's a need for a cultural space in the city.

"We're in the very early stages," notes Kozar. "This is the first initial kind of step so that when other funding opportunities come along, we can submit plans and it'll make it much easier to secure funding."

She mentions, when she heard they would be receiving the funding, they were in the middle of working on a second grant application for this project, so they were thrilled to have this extra boost.

Cultural connector Megan Romphf says an extra $5,000 was also allocated to Diversity Days/Together for Change Week.

"It essentially encapsulated the community and was committed toward that event for the anti-racism, equality, diversity and inclusion practices for that week," mentions Romphf. "It helped us host a lot of the events that you saw that week."

Kozar and Romphf say they're grateful to have such excellent grant writers at the PCRC, as that goes a long way toward actually getting the grant money for the organization.
