The upcoming provincial election raises various concerns for those seeking change, and snowmobile clubs are no exception. Club Snow President Ken Penman says it's mandatory to have a licensed snowmobile for riding on the trails, and the election's going to have a part to play in how this progresses.

"Now the provincial election coming up -- it's very important, too, because some of the parties are saying, 'Yes we believe in the integration of the licensing for a snowmobile.' So, that's going to have a direct affect. I would say about 3,000 snowmobiles here in this area, and I would say no more than 1,200 or 1,500 have trail passes. But the rest of them are on the trail. And being on the trail without a trail pass now is like going on the highway without a license on your vehicle. You can get stopped and fined. And the fine on a trail without a trail pass is $437 now. And a trail pass is $150. So, it doesn't make any sense."

Penman says they're having dialogues with the parties.

"It's very important. And the election is going to show kind of where things are going to be at. And we're looking at our politicians, and going to them and talking to them about the integration. And I think that integration's going to come even for quads and all kinds of other things. It's going to come sooner or later. It's like having a boat license now."
