The Pink Ladies Snow Ride For a Cure had to be cancelled this year due to COVID, so the group reorganized their efforts and held a 50/50 draw instead. The ride last took place in 2020 with not very much snow, in contrast to this year's overabundance of snow, but the limiting effects of the pandemic disallowed the ride, nevertheless. The Ride is held every two years, alternating with the men's cancer fundraising efforts.

Committee member Tammy Hammersley says they presented a cheque of $6,000 to the Portage District General Hospital Foundation.

"We raised $4,250 and then the remainder is just other donations that came in," explains Hammersley.

Darlene Desjardin is also a committee member and adds it always feels amazing to be able to give back and help people, noting it's what they're all about.

"It's giving back to our communities that we live in and helping those who are suffering with breast cancer," adds Hammersley.

Tara Pettinger is executive director of the Foundation and says the donation is huge.

"Any time these community groups hold their fundraisers and then want to make that donation to the foundation, and for us to kind of funnel it toward breast cancer, and just helping enhance the services that are being received in the Portage hospital, is just huge for us," notes Pettinger. "More importantly, it's huge for the community and those accessing those services."
