The Portage la Prairie School Division (PLAPSD) held a board meeting on Tuesday night in which a variety of topics were covered, including:

  • Confirming the division's 2022-2023 Operating Budget, ($44,060,389.)
  • Employee contract housekeeping.
  • A Special Field Trip request for Oakville School to go to Quebec City, during Spring Break of 2023, to study French Culture and Communication. (The request was approved in principle.)
  • Spring Break is coming up from March 28 to April 1.
  • A presentation was shown from a grade one class at Fort La Reine Elementary about farming.
  • And a COIVD-19 update from Superintendent Todd Cuddington.

"The recent public health orders have come into effect, making mask usage optional. That took effect, and we are still seeing a fairly significant number of students and staff choosing to wear masks in our schools." Says Cuddington. "It's nice to report that absenteeism related to COVID seems to be significantly trending downward. On a positive note, we are seeing through our attendance tracking both for staff and students that we are, you know, up from where we were during the worst days of the Omicron. School attendance is increasing improving. We were at about 82 per cent divisionally in the last week, and we are hopefully seeing a trend that will continue to rise in post Spring break. We've had some difficult days with the weather, which has complicated attendance, but we know that warmer and drier days are ahead. We'd like to see that corresponding increase in student attendance going forward."
