A former Portage la Prairie City Councillor and CFS executive has added author to her resume.

Janet Shindle's released a children's book titled Nana's Magic Swing, which she says was actually written around 2000, and was one of several.

"Always with the idea that I would like to publish one, at least," she says, "But I didn't really have time over the years, because I had a busy career, and so I thought that might just be a project for when I retired. So, when I did retire, I went about finding a self-publishing company to get the book into the hands of readers."

Shindle says while the book's geared toward children, there's a broader message.

"But the message to children in this book is that there are many feelings associated with losing someone that you love," she says, "This is a book about a grandma who dies, but whether it's losing someone through death or divorce or any other way, there are feelings that will arise, and that those are normal and natural reactions to loss."

Shindle will be at the Portage Regional Library tomorrow night, for a book reading.

The book's available at Mil Jeanne's Flowers and Axcenz, as well as in a number of Winnipeg bookstores.
