The Portage Golf Club held its annual general meeting last night.

This was for their 2019 fiscal year which they would typically hold in the spring but COVID-19 caused them to postpone. They announced the new president for the 2020 season, Dean Cairns. He talks about what’s next for the board.

“We have three new board members and we have got to meet with them and see who all is going to take what position,” explains Cairns. “The only real position at this point is me as president and then I need to talk to the other eight board members and see who wants to do what.”

Cairns says 2019 was quite a successful year for the golf course financially, however, 2020 hasn’t been as kind to them.

“Things started off really slow but they have started to pick up a little,” says Cairns. “We’re hoping the decisions we’ve made to this point have made it so we don’t lose too bad (financially). With COVID and all the restrictions and all the extra measures we’ve had to take for safety, that has reduced how much we can take in.”

Cairns wants to thank all the previous members for their time last year and welcomes all the new members to the board.
