The Portage Islanders wrapped up their portion of their 2022 season undefeated and have no plans to slow down as they rock and roll into the new year.

So far, the Islanders are 8-0 on the season, with their last victory coming on December 18th against the Warran Wildcats by a score of 3-1.

Forward Derrick Brooks says it was a massive win for his team, as they wanted to go into the break on a winning note.

"It's a good league with a lot of good teams. So, we were happy to continue that momentum into the break here."

Although unbeaten on the season, Brooks knows that every team the Islanders meet presents their own set of challenges.

"I think any team on any given night is going to want to beat anybody, but I mean, especially having the success we've had thus far, teams definitely be the ones to hand us our first loss."

The Islander forward adds that although his team has yet to be handed their first loss this year, areas of the team's game can be improved, such as their defensive zone coverage. Brooks says that if his team can clean up that side of the puck, they will have a much better chance of redeeming themselves from last year's first-round playoff exit.

The Islanders have ten games left this season, the first of which is after the winter break. The Notre Dame Hawks will travel to Portage on January 4th as the Islanders kick off the second half of their season.
