The Portage la Prairie Royal Canadian Legion Branch 65 has announced it's doing its part to help keep the current pandemic at bay.

President Bob Oldford says they held a meeting Tuesday night.

"The decision was made that the Legion would be closed until further notice," says Oldford. "That's all aspects of the Legion: Bingo, Chase the Ace, Meat Draws. . . everything that we do. The whole building will be closed off."

Oldford says their executive and general meeting saw unanimous agreement to make the closure. He notes they practiced social distancing but had to meet to make a board-level resolution.

"Well for us, it means that we want the people in the community to practice safety for themselves," adds Oldford. "That's most important. We deal with a lot of veterans and stuff like that. Unfortunately, many of them are getting older and this is a thing that hits them quite hard. So, we want to make sure everyone is safe."
