It was announced earlier in the year that the City of Portage, Portage Tennis Club and the Portage Pickleball Club have all put forward an agreement to convert the north Island Park tennis courts to six permanent pickleball courts.

President of the Portage Pickleball Club, Sue Davidson, talks about the agreement.

"We're hoping that the six permanent pickleball courts will be utilized as they'll be open to the public. There will be beginner paddles and balls available at Stride Place for anyone interested in learning how to play the game. They'll be able to sign those out and go and participate. We welcome new members to the club at any time, and visitors will be able to utilize the space as well."

Davidson outlines a timeline of the transition from tennis courts to pickleball courts.

"In a perfect world, we'd like to have them by the end of summer, but that'll remain to be seen if we can make that dream a reality."

One thing that could delay this transition is additional fundraising required to fund this project, notes Davidson.

The Portage Pickleball Club currently has 57 members. If you are interested in learning more about the club, click here.
