A pair of Portage la Prairie women are facing drug-related charges stemming from a traffic stop over the weekend in Sandy Bay.

According to police, on July 11, at approximately 1:05 a.m., Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers in Sandy Bay First Nation conducted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle driving in a suspicious manner.

Police say officers observed visible drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and the two female occupants were directed from the vehicle and upon a subsequent search, police located and seized multiple bags of what is believed to be crystal methamphetamine from both suspects. Police further seized oxycodone pills and $820 cash.

A 39-year-old female and a 29-year-old female, both from Portage la Prairie, were arrested and both have been charged with possession of meth for the purpose of trafficking.
