The Winnipeg Jets have announced their 2022 Rookie Camp roster, and a Portage la Prairie representative has made the cut.

Local defenceman Dean Stewart is one of the eight blue liners that will be attending the 2022 Young Stars Classic in Penticton, B.C. from September 16 to 19.

The 24-year-old split time last season between the ECHL and the AHL, ending the season with the Manitoba Moose. In 20 games in the American Hockey League, the Portager scored a goal and dished out eight assists.

The former Portage Terrier from 2014-2016 was drafted in the seventh round, 188th overall, in 2016 by the Arizona Coyotes.

Since being drafted, Stewart played four seasons in the NCAA with the University of Nebraska Omaha, being named the team captain in his senior season. Over the last two years, Stewart totalled 47 points in 80 ECHL games for the Wichita Thunder.

The Young Stars Classic sees the Rookie Camp roster for all four Canadian teams in the Western Conference take part in a round-robin exhibition tournament. You can watch Stewart and the rest of the Jets' prospects in action on WinnipegJets.com, the Jets' Facebook, Youtube or TikTok pages starting this Friday when they square off against the Calgary Flames.
