A Portage la Prairie resident has raised a significant amount of money for a great cause.

Stacey Driedger says she started doing the Polar Plunge five years ago when her friend dared her to do it.

She explains that her goal for this year and where she is going from here.

"My goal for this year was $3000. I have announced that it is likely my retirement, being that this will be my fifth year currently right now."

Driedger notes that she surpassed her goal and then some, as she has reached over $4000 raised this year.

"I am very proud of the support I have in the community, and I've got some pretty great people standing behind me."

She describes what it feels like to do the plunge.

"You kind of brace for the worst, but it's just three seconds of your life. It does feels like a long 3 seconds."

Driedger did add that while she says she is retiring from the plunge, she will still be around.

"The truth is, I'll probably still be in the background somewhere helping somebody do it next year. It's a great cause, and I would have a hard time just walking away from it completely. So, you never know, I might still be in there in some capacity."
