As the weather fluctuates, Pothole la Prairie is back and the city could use your help Identifying the road disturbances.
City Councilor Terrie Porter asked for an update on the city's pothole situation at Monday evening's City Council meeting.
Jocelyn Lequier-Jobin, director of operations for Portage la Prairie, took the question, replying confidently, noting that the city crews are on the job.
"As the snow melts and the frost comes out of the ground, we get potholes popping up around the town. What we do when the weather is still fairly cold is we use a cold mix of asphalt to fill them."
Lequier-Jobin says these patches are not permanent solutions, but they help fix the problem for now.
"It keeps the roads more level temporarily until we get into the summer months when we can do a proper patch job."
Due to the recent warm spell, potholes have become an issue much earlier than usual this year. Crews have been out filling the larger potholes. She notes that city crews are out around town looking for potholes to fill, but the operations department still wants to hear from residents about where they are finding the driving hazards.
"People can call the operations office or use the service request app to let us know where those potholes are."
Lequier-Jobin adds that this is the earliest she can remember potholes being reported during her tenure as director of operations.
